Help Guide Add a Customer Account Settings › CRM › Customers |
Overview
Customers are the core records in Valkre. Adding customers correctly ensures your team can begin building account plans, tracking interactions, and managing relationships immediately. Valkre provides two methods for adding customers — manually for individual records, or via bulk upload for large batches.
| Method | Best For | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Add a Single Customer | Creating one customer at a time with full control over each field | Account Settings → CRM → Customers → + Create a Customer |
| Mass Add Customers | Adding many customers at once using a pre-populated template | Account Settings → CRM → Customers → Mass Add Customers |
To reach the Customers list, navigate to:
|
Option 1: Add a Single Customer
Use this method when you need to create one customer record at a time. This approach gives you full visibility into every field during creation.
| 1 | Navigate to Customers
|
| 2 | Click "+ Create a Customer"
|
| 3 | Enter Required Information
|
| 4 | Review and Save
|
| 5 | Assign External or Extended ID (if applicable)
|
| TIP | Follow internal naming conventions when entering customer names (e.g., avoid abbreviations unless they are officially used). Consistent naming ensures customers appear correctly in searches, reports, and dashboards. |
Option 2: Mass Add Customers (Bulk Upload)
Use this method when you need to add multiple customers at once. A template file is used to structure the data, which is then validated and imported into Valkre.
| 1 | Click "Mass Add Customers"
|
| 2 | Download and Populate the Template
|
| 3 | Upload the Completed File
|
| 4 | Validate and Import
|
| NOTE | Validation errors must be resolved before the import can be confirmed. Valkre will not import a partial file — all rows must pass validation. Download the error report from the validation screen to see exactly which rows and fields need correction. |
Field Reference
The following fields are commonly required or available when creating a customer record. Your organization’s configuration may add or remove fields from this list.
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Customer Name | Yes | The official name of the customer organization. Follow internal naming conventions. |
| Customer Group | Varies | Assigns the customer to a group (e.g., by region, business unit, or territory). Drives access and reporting segmentation. |
| Customer Type | Varies | Determines the workflow, steps, and features available for this customer’s account plan. |
| External ID | No | A reference ID from an external system (e.g., CRM, ERP). Used for data sync and deduplication. |
| Extended ID | No | A secondary organizational identifier for the customer record, if applicable. |
| TIP | If you are unsure which Customer Type or Customer Group to select, check with your Valkre administrator. Assigning the wrong type can limit the features visible on the customer’s account plan. |

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Customer Group and Customer Type?
Customer Group is an organizational grouping used to control access and reporting (e.g., a region or territory). Customer Type defines the structure of the account plan — what steps, features, and fields are available for that customer. A customer has both a Group and a Type.
Can I change the Customer Type after a record is created?
Yes, but this should be done with caution. Changing the Customer Type may hide previously visible features or steps. Consult your Valkre administrator before changing a Customer Type on an active account plan.
What happens if I forget to add an External ID?
You can add or edit the External ID at any time by hovering over the customer name in the list and clicking Edit. However, if your organization syncs from a CRM and a record without an External ID is created in both systems, you may end up with duplicate records. It’s best to assign the External ID immediately after creation.
Why can’t I see a customer I just created?
The most common cause is Customer Group access. If your role is restricted to specific Customer Groups and the new customer was assigned to a different group, it will not appear in your view. Contact your Valkre administrator to verify the customer’s group assignment or adjust your role’s access settings.
How many customers can I add in a single bulk upload?
There is no hard-coded row limit published in the platform, but best practice is to keep bulk uploads under 500 rows per batch. For very large imports, consider splitting the file into multiple batches to make validation and error correction more manageable.
